So we had to find a new home for Georgie Porge. We're super sad, Curren is having the hardest time, and I feel HORRIBLE.
Everything was going so well with her for about a month, and all of the sudden Giggs just decided he did not like her anymore, to be frank. They were pals and we were thrilled with how she fit right in, and I think Giggs is more of an old man than I thought he would be! I basically had them separated all the time throughout the day, which was hard with Curren going in and out of the yard allll the time. After about a week of it, I just thought OK this is not fair to her.
She is soooo sweet, such a lover, and never started anything, it was 100% Giggsy, and since he was our first dog we thought we should really try to find her a new home where she can just live her best life, and be as happy as she deserves to be.
Not knowing really where to start, I asked a few families I thought she would be great for. She needs an active family, a family that will give her tons of affection and will exercise her a LOT. After about a week of things not working out, I decided to call Boston Buddies. Boston Buddies is a Boston Terrier rescue organization, here in So Cal. They are so dedicated to finding homes for this amazing breed, and being sure it's a great fit.
I was so hesitant..the lady directed me to their website to fill out the "Surrender Form" (heart break #1). To my surprise it was a 4 page, very detailed questionnaire about Georgia. It said at the bottom that this is a volunteer run facility and they would get back to us most likely in a few weeks. I wrote in there that she does not need to be in a foster home, that we'll keep here until the perfect match is found!
I hit send, and no joke about 2 minutes later the same lady called me back.
She said, "Georgia is going to go to the best home any dog could ever go to!"
My heart totally skipped a beat.
To make a long story a tad shorter...the personal vet for Boston Buddies, Dr. Robert Weiss, DVM...had just put his dog down 3 weeks prior and has been hoping for a young female to come along....basically Georgie is livin the dream. The animal hospital he works at has a doggy day care that charges $70 a DAY (yeoowww) to board working 'parents' dogs. Complete with a pool...huge outdoor area..pretty fancy! He is married and has 2 little boys who welcomed Georgia with huge open arms. He said they have been crying for their dog that passed for the entire 3 weeks :(. It seemed like an amazing place for Georgia. She will be going to work with him the 4 days a week he works, and they live a VERY active life that she will be a part of (hiking, camping, lots of outdoors stuff)
We decided to meet in Van Nuys, about an hour south of us at a huge park.... and FYI i'm a huge animal lover, grew up raising everything you could think of and I always was taking care of the sick/hurt ones, love the creatures.
I also felt very bad about giving Chrissy (Georgia's original owner) my word that we would keep her in our family, I now know how hard it was for her to give us Georgia. None of this happened without her consent, Chrissy was on board with Dr. Weiss as well.

so I loaded up the kids along with Georgia and we headed out |
where we goin? (insert me SOBBINGGGG) |
her food, leash, crate, and favorite toy from Chrissy |
snoozin in the car |
UGLY cry the ENTIRE way down |
Georgie meets her new dad! |
I explained to him that Giggs was not nice to her, so we had to find a new family for her to have fun with.
When we got home, first thing he did was run to Giggs and say "You're grumpy!! So now we don't have Georgia!!" which was true.
Curren was fine with everything until Dr. Weiss put her in his car, then Curren started sobbing, like SOBBING saying, "No you can't have my Georgia, don't put her in your car!" oh crap.
I start sobbing.
Fin joins in for the hell of it.
So we give Georgia one last hug and kiss and she was on her way.
Mid cry Curren spotted a seriously awesome park out of the corner of his eye, so we headed that way to get our mind off things.
he's big into Para scopes right now so this was a mind explosion. |
Dr. Weiss sent us the following email that night, a few texts since. We miss her terribly but we know it's what's best for her. We hope to meet up in a few months! Sans Giggs. Can I just say that I learned my lesson to not assume adding another dog would be NBD?
Hi Sarah,
Just wanted to give you a quick update. Yesterday went very well, we all went out for an afternoon walk to explore the neighborhood, then my wife and I took her with us to dinner and she was perfect. All of the other patrons at the restaurant kept coming by to pet her and she loved it. After dinner, the kids in the neighborhood (about 8 of them) all heard about the new addition and came to visit. They all offered to "dog sit" if we needed it and she gave out kisses like crazy. So far so good, her and my cat need to work a few things out but I think it will be fine with a little time and TLC.
Thank You,
Robert R. Weiss D.V.M.
oh.... shoot.. sorry seebs, but at least you know she will be fine.
